ENTR'ACTES

Presentation Programmation & distribution Video

Entr’acte, a Dadaist short by René Clair (1898-1981) with music by Erik Satie (1866-1925), was inserted between the two acts of the ballet Relâche, choreographed by Jean Börlin in 1924 for Les Ballets Suédois, with sets by the painter Francis Picabia. The first intervention of cinema in dance, this Surrealistic film invented a new logic of film editing, scrupulously underscored by the music. A second musical version was created in 2008 by the Czech Martin Smolka (1959), establishing another relation with the image. A fascinating confrontation!
