NORIKO BABA

 

Japanese composer born in 1972

 

Noriko Baba started studying the piano and composition when she was 4 years old. She studies the piano, harmony, counterpoint and composition at Tokyo Fine Arts University.

After obtaining her Licence (B.A.) and Master's degree in composition, she pursues her studies at the CNSM of Paris where she is awarded a composition prize (first class honours) and an orchestration one. She also dedicates herself to acoustics, analysis and ethnomusicology.

A scholarship from the SACEM allows her to take part in the IRCAM Cursus of composition and computer music (2003-2004).

A « Akiyoshidaï International Art Village » scholarship holder for the Royaumont Foundation in 2001, she is awarded a second prize in the NHK-Maïnichi composition competition.

Since then, Noriko Baba has been commissioned many pieces and was granted a residence scholarship in 2005-2006 for Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart.
